Well, it is that time of year again…Hurricane Season. Hurricane season officially began on June 1st and runs until the end of October. Even though it is impossible to accurately predict how many tropical storms will form during any given season and how many of these tropical storms will turn into hurricanes or even make landfall, forecasters look at numerous weather patterns to try to come up with a hurricane forecast each year. 2014 is shaping up to file suit with last years below normal hurricane season. Accuweather.com’s long range forecasting team anticipates 2 storms either tropical storm or hurricanes to make landfall this year. The Atlantic Basin is predicted to see 10 named storms, 5 hurricanes, and 2 major storms.
Although hurricane season is typically the most active in September and October, it is never too early to be prepared if you live in an area prone to hurricane damage. Have your hurricane preparedness kit ready. Know what you need to protect your home from wind or flying debris. Trim trees or have dead trees removed that are around your home. Know your evacuation route and be prepared to leave if evacuations are mandated.
PHC Restoration has restored many homes and businesses over the years that have sustained storm damage. We hope that we have another quiet hurricane season this year, but know that we are only a phone call away if a storm strikes.
