There is no better way to spend the winter holidays than getting together with your family and friends.  But as the National Fire Protection Agency reminds us, this time of year, parties, and family gatherings also means a greater risk for fire to your home.  According to the NFPA, following a few simple tips can help ensure a happy and fire safe holiday season.

  • Keep candles away from decorations and other things that can burn
  • Replace worn or broken string of lights
  • Use clips instead of nails to hang lights so the cords do not get damaged
  • Test your smoke alarms
  • Keep matches, lighters and lit candles away from children
  • Turn off all lights and blow out all candles before going to bed or leaving the house
