October is Fire Prevention Month, but it is never too early to take a look around your home to make sure it is safe from the risk of fire. It is also important for your kids to be aware of potential fire hazards in your home. The National Fire Protection Agency has a great fire inspection checklist to help get your children involved by becoming “Official Safety Inspector.”

Here are a few things to look for around your home that can be potential fire hazards:

  • Lint build up in clothes dryer vents and filters
  • Extension cords running across walkways
  • Appliances and lights plugged into the same electrical outlet
