Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and residents of the North Raleigh apartment complex who are waking up this morning in different surroundings after being displaced as a result of an apartment fire that damaged or destroyed a dozen homes late yesterday afternoon. Luckily, everyone was able to escape, but most residents lost everything in the fire.

This story reminds me of the years that I spent living in apartment complexes and how I would have lost everything if a fire forced me from my home. More importantly, the fact that I didn’t have renters insurance during some of the years I rented apartments would have meant that I would have to pay out of pocket to replace my clothes, furniture and other personal items.

It is unsure if the residents effected from this fire in Raleigh had renters insurance or not, but if you rent, this is a good time to check to see if you have an active policy that will cover the replacement of all your personal property if a loss occurs. If you don’t rent, but know someone who does, check with them to make sure they are covered.

If you have any questions regarding your coverage or coverage amount, ask your agent to go over your policy with you. They are there to help you.
