PHC Restoration Founder, Carl Smith

Carl Sherman began his career in the restoration industry in 1971 as a carpet and upholstery cleaning specialist but demand quickly grew for fire and smoke damage restoration services. Coupling his entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to help people, Carl took the first step to branching into the restoration field in 1973 by attending Restoration Repair School in D.C., where he learned from industry pioneer and founder of the Certified Restorer program, Marty King.

Over the years, Professional Home Care (later renamed PHC Restoration) grew from a four person operation with two trucks and a few carpet cleaning machines to earning a reputation as the best restoration company in Central North Carolina, thanks to Carl’s commitment to values, quality of work, and doing the right thing.

Retired in 2014, Carl enjoys seeing PHC thrive under its second generation of leadership: his daughter and son-in-law, Katie and Josh Smith.
